For those of you who haven't heard, the bears beat the ducks tonight!! In a roller coaster ride of a game, the bears edged the ducks out by 4 points, 58-54.
In a uptempo game, possessions were a premium. The bears showed the gritty side of their game with David Kravish mopping up the floor for lose balls. On the offensive end, the bears seemed to get anything they wanted, executing to almost perfection. On the defensive end, the bears had few defensive lapses but the ducks tended to capitalize on them.
The first half was plagued by turnovers for the bears. The ducks would turns these into points on the other end. Oregon, leading the nation in second chance points, was limited to only 5 of those chances ALL GAME!
From what I saw, Cal competed their butts off in the second half. Even when Oregon made a run in the second half, down 6, the bears persisted and fought back into the game.
Overall, a very gritty effort for the bears. This game will surely do great for the teams confidence moving forward.
Now onto my player ratings:
1 Justin Cobbs (Cal): played composed all game. Shot the ball when he needed to and passed when needed. A few careless turnovers in the first half but made up for it in the second. Great from Cal's point guard. Grade: A
23 Allen Crabbe (Cal): made a few shots early that got him going. 2 monster dunks that got him and the team fired up. Was caught ball watching a few times but that's understandable for the amount of minutes he played. Was very active on defense for the most part though. A few careless turnovers also but hey he's human. Grade: A-
3 Tyrone Wallace (Cal): was mostly anonymous for the most of the game outside of 2 3's, one that he banked in. Tended to lose his man on the glass but wasn't caught out too much. His length caused Singler problems all game and that I commend him for. Grade: B+
45 David Kravish (Cal): a lanky mass of energy all game. Made all the keys plays needed and was on the floor all day. Played with heart and soul that many players envy. Also made some clutch buckets and the key jump ball to seal if for Cal. Grade: A+
35 Richard Solomon (Cal): his length caused real problems for Oregon all night. Was a monster on the glass with a double double. Defended well on Tony Woods and kept him in check for the most part. Must improve his concentration for longer stretches and it will improve his game dramatically. Grade: A
Bench:
12 Brandon Smith (Cal): proved again how valuable he is. Moved the ball well on offense and took care of the ball fairly well. Some careless turnovers but ran back to help his teammates out. Shot wasn't on tonight but hustled his butt off. Grade: B
34 Robert Thurman (Cal): did what he does best and that's dunk the ball. Put Tony Woods on a poster which took the teams game to the next level. Great performance. Grade: A
No grade for Solomon?
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your assessment of the game and the teammates
